SKOKIE, ILL. - Taussig Associates Inc. has expanded its in-house capabilities in polymer and organic materials identification. The Skokie firm has added a Nicolet Magna 550 Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscope, equipped with a Spectra Tech advanced analytical microscope and a TA Instruments System 2000 thermal analysis system.
The company also has added a materials scientist and other engineering personnel to beef up its analysis capabilities. Taussig tests and identifies polymers for suppliers, compounders and their original equipment manufacturer customers.
American Barmag acquires Bouligny
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - American Barmag Corp. of Charlotte has acquired 100 percent of the operations and assets of Bouligny Co. from Rowe Corp., also of Charlotte.
American Barmag, a subsidiary of Barmag AG of Remscheid, Germany, makes a line of machinery for the plastics industry and fiber producers. Bouligny specializes in staple fiber equipment, polymer filters, custom-engineered products and spinning machines for polypropylene.
BASF sets up PBT tolling arrangements
MOUNT OLIVE, N.J. - BASF Corp. Plastics Materials of Mount Olive announced Aug. 11 it has formed an exclusive tolling arrangement for neat polybutylene terephthalate polyester resins with Intercontinental Polymers Inc. of Charlotte, N.C.
IPI bought BASF's polyester chip and bicomponent staple manufacturing operations at Lowland, Tenn. IPI will exclusively provide PBT resin chips to BASF for subsequent compounding into Ultradur B PBT resins at BASF's Wyandotte, Mich., facility. The Lowland plant has a nameplate capacity of 32 million pounds per year.
Budzar announces rep appointments
EUCLID, OHIO - Budzar Industries Inc. of Euclid recently announced the appointment of the following representatives in its BTU and ICE brands of process heating and cooling systems in its plastics division:
Classic Plastics Sales Co. will be responsible for sales in Ohio, Indiana, West Virginia and Kentucky.
Superior Industrial will handle those brands in the East Coast.
Hansen Plastics Machinery will handle sales in Michigan.
Rose Machinery will be responsible for sales in eastern Pennsylvania.
Polyclad Laminates ventures to China
FRANKLIN, N.H. - Polyclad Laminates Inc., a Franklin-based maker of laminates and prepregs, has acquired 65 percent of Dalian Atlantic Advanced Laminates Co. of Dalian, China.
Under terms of the joint venture agreement, Polyclad's Chinese minority interest partner will be Dalian Daxian Co.
Polyclad President Joseph A. Santolucito said growth rates in the printed circuit board industry in Asia, which now exceed that of the United States or Europe, prompted the company to seek out a venture partner to serve that market.
