This week's resin pricing chart on Page 25 shows some significant declines in the price ranges for several commodity resins - particularly certain polyethylene and polystyrene grades. This is why:
Prices continue to soften and, as is this newspaper's consistent policy, Plastics News does not show a decline in its chart prices until it confirms that the lower prices are widely available in the market. Hence, there often is a lag in the price changes reflected in the weekly chart.
Additionally, many of the cumulative changes shown on this week's chart only recently have been divulged by buyers and sellers, despite having occurred incrementally since May.
Armed with this new information, pricing reporter Bruce Vernyi has been able to refine and narrow the average selling-price range of several resin grades, making some published average prices appear to drop more sharply than others.
