DUSSELDORF, GERMANY - Ube Industries Ltd. has introduced five new grades of nylon for auto-motive, packaging and other applications. At an Oct. 6 news conference at K'95 in Dusseldorf, an official of the Tokyo-based maker of chemicals, machinery and equipment and construction materials said the company can make 105 million pounds of nylon 6; 15.4 million pounds of nylon 6/6; and 12.1 million pounds of nylon 12.
Ube introduced:
Two nylon 12 grades. One -designed for truck air-break tubing - boasts high-heat resistance and high-burst resistance, impact resistance at low temperatures, and flexibility. The second is suitable for multilayer fuel tubing for cars. Multilayer tubing solves problems encountered with conventional nylon tubing, which allows gasoline to permeate the nylon layer and evaporate, Ube said. The tubing is made by bonding layers of fluoropolymer to the nylon 12 outer layer by coextrusion.
Ube doubled the oxygen barrier characteristics of conven-tional nylon 6 to make its new grade, Nylon Clay Hybrid, for packaging. It is a composite material made of clay dispersed at a molecular level through nylon resin.
A new monofilament-grade copolymer for floating lines for tuna fishing. The nylon 6, 6/6 and 12 copolymer has improved transparency and flexibility, according to the company.
A nylon 6/6 injection welding grade for coil bobbin sealing in automotive control system sensors, without the use of an adhesive agent.
