Sydney/Advantage Plastics Inc. of Miami is spending $2.5 million to boost blown film extrusion capacity and add space. Chief Operating Officer Rick Diamond said his firm has bought five film coextrusion lines from Meccanica Alto Milanese srl in the past month and will install them in Miami. To accommodate the new equipment, Sydney/Advantage is adding 25,000 square feet of space, boosting its total to 300,000 square feet in two adjacent buildings. It also bought a Lemo six-color printing press.
Diamond said it is expanding to meetgrowing sales in retail and merchandise bags, retail trash bags and can liners. Sydney/Advantage now has 40 lines making polyethylene film, which it mainly converts to bags.
The expansion should lift the firm's sales to about $30 million next year, Diamond said in an Oct. 11 telephone interview.
The firm was formed in February from the merger of Sydney Plastics Inc. and Advantage Plastics Inc., both of Miami. The firms had total annual sales of about $26 million. Diamond was a former owner of Advantage.
