DUSSELDORF, GERMANY-The Society of Plastics Engineers, which is trying to become more global, will hold its first major international conference in 1996 in Neuss, Germany, near Dusseldorf. Bonnie Bachman, 1994-1995 SPE president, announced the conference during SPE's pre-K technical meeting, ``Plastics High Performance Packaging,'' in Dusseldorf. She said SPE's Council approved the 1996 conference at a meeting Oct. 3.
Plans call for four sessions involving marketing and management, packaging, automotive and chemicals, Bachman said.
Based in Brookfield, Conn., SPE has about 37,500 members, mostly in North America. About 2,000 members are from Europe and Asia. In 1993, SPE opened its first European office, in Brussels, Belgium.
The pre-K packaging meeting attracted 100 people from 26 countries to Hotel Nikko. About a quarter of the attendees identified themselves as SPE members, Bachman said.
