TORONTO - Toronto bottle labeler Plastic Impressions Inc. has filed for bankruptcy, and the owner said he is unsure whether he will start another, similar business. Ontario's Ministry of Labor fined Plastic Impressions C$25,000 (US$18,600) on Aug. 18 for an industrial accident in November 1994, in which a female employee lost most of the use of her right arm. She caught her arm in a conveyor belt leading to an oven.
Owner Harvey Meek said last week that a recent safety fine levied against his 30-employee firm was a factor in the Nov. 7 bankruptcy filing, but other circumstances are being analyzed.
The ministry took Plastic Impressions' financial resources into account when it set the fine, which could have been as much as C$500,000 (US$372,000).
