PHOENIX - Resource Industries recently opened its doors in Phoenix, providing consulting and manufacturing services including part and mold design, mold making, molding and secondary operations. Richard Dennis and his partner Phil Koopmann founded Resource Industries after the company they both worked for, ITT Cannon in Phoenix, closed.
``We decided that we were too young to retire,'' Dennis said, ``and neither of us wanted to work for anybody else at this point, so we decided to try going into business for ourselves.''
Dennis and Koopmann have a combined 25 years of experience, primarily in the connector industry, first at Molex Inc., then Amphenol and finally at ITT Cannon's Phoenix operations. Dennis specializes in mold and part design, Koopmann in automation and assembly processes.
The pair recently leased 2,000 square feet in which to set up shop. One of their specialties is providing the design and build of potting molds, a niche that Dennis said is a growth area for Resource Industries.
The company also designs and builds thermoset and rubber molds, and consults on parts requiring transfer and compression molding. Dennis and Koopmann also provide consulting services to manufacturers wanting to set up their own molding or secondary operations.
The limited liability corporation is acquiring a small molding press to make parts for one of its customers.
``It's been exciting,'' Dennis said. ``It took a little courage to break out of the ITT womb, but we've always worked well together and we've found a niche for ourselves.''
