AKRON, OHIO - Plastics News is ringing in the New Year with a host of editorial staff promotions. Copy editor Kathy Ackermann becomes assistant managing editor, in charge of special projects.
Copy editor Jeannie Reall assumes the post of senior copy editor.
Reporters Bruce Vernyi and Bill Bregar become senior reporters.
Editorial assistant Freyda Sussman takes the title of editorial research coordinator.
Assistant copy editor Sheri Gregg becomes a copy editor.
Reall, Vernyi and Bregar all have been with Plastics News since before its launch in March 1989, while Ackermann joined the publication later that year.
``Plastics News' quick rise and continued strength in the market is due in large part to its stable editorial staff and to its cumulative industry expertise,'' said Editor Robert Grace. ``These promotions recognize the valuable contributions of six of the individuals who have helped propel us to our current position as market leader.''
In her new post, Ackermann will play a bigger role in directing the newspaper's monthly special reports, including its six annual processor rankings and the annual, year-end ``Market Data Book'' issue.
As part of her expanded duties, Reall will help to spearhead Plastics News' imminent transition to electronic pagination.
Vernyi's and Bregar's areas of coverage will remain unchanged, with the former concentrating on resin markets and pricing, and the latter on machinery developments and the building and construction market.
Sussman, who joined the publication in mid-1991, will continue to manage and expand Plas-tics News' ever-growing editorial database of processors, recyclers, compounders and trade organizations.
Gregg, who started with the publication in August 1993 as an administrative assistant, now is involved full time with copy editing and page layout.
