NEW HAVEN, CONN. - Up and Running, a New Haven company dedicated solely to extruder installation, has developed a ``Fast Track'' process. The method provides fast, turnkey installation of extrusion equipment that eliminates lengthy production interruptions. Up and Running's technicians bring their own equipment and supplies to the job site. The firm also provides instruction on project planning and site preparation.
Penda Corp. of Portage, Wis., recently contracted with Up and Running to install two 6-inch HPM extruders with 41/2-inch coextruders to manufacture high density polyethylene sheet for thermoformed truck bed liners.
Scott Harvey, Penda's vice president of operations, said the company normally does its own installations.
``But the idea of getting the equipment running without sacrificing existing production staff was very attractive,'' he said.
Up and Running got Penda's new lines in production six to eight weeks earlier than if company employees had done it themselves, Harvey said.
Included in the package is mezzanine fabrication, equipment hauling, mechanical setup, utility services and trouble-shooting startup.
Fast Track equipment typ-ically includes silos, railroad car unloading systems, materials-handling systems, blenders and other auxiliary items, mezzanines, film towers and supports, the extruder and downstream equipment.
Up and Running installs equipment for blown film, pipe and profiles, compounding and repelletizing, cast film and sheet, and fiber.
