MIDDLEBURY, VT.-Apex Specialty Materials Inc. has purchased Polymers Inc., a Middlebury-based synthetic fiber manufacturer. Apex is an investment and executive management company. The firm has installed an on-site management team at Polymers Inc. that includes company veterans Joe Collins, vice president-technology; John Foster, vice president-sales; and Joe Roth, vice president-finance and administration. Joining them will be Mike Macoy, vice president-manufacturing; and Gary Delmatto, vice president, sales and marketing.
Polymers Inc. makes a range of synthetic fibers for industrial and home use.
Bolton Emerson sells dicer machine line
HAVERHILL, MASS. - Dicer Corp. has purchased the Bolton line of plastics dicer machines from Bolton Emerson Americas Inc.
Bolton Dicers convert a variety of plastics materials from webs into pellets. Dicer Corp. will assume all manufacturing tooling, sales and distribution for the product line, in addition to original spare parts.
Dicer Corp., based in Haverhill, was founded in October.
Genca Corp. merges with Hi-Tech Screw
CLEARWATER, FLA. - Hi-Tech Screw Engineering Inc., a manufacturer of extrusion and injection screws, barrels and shafts, has merged with Genca Corp.
Hi-Tech brings to Genca the capability to manufacture screws, barrels and shafts from one-half to 15 inches in diameter for single- and twin-screw machinery.
Hi-Tech joins Genca in the firms' new, 72,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and lab in Clearwater.
Accu-Grind acquires Henion Etowah unit
ETOWAH, N.C. - Henion International has sold its Etowah pelletizer division to Accu-Grind Inc.
The sale was prompted by the serious illness of Henion's managing partner of the pelletizer division.
The Henion dicer division in Port Murray, N.J., is not affected by the sale.
BASF to complete expansion in 1997
MOUNT OLIVE, N.J. - BASF Corp.'s Polymers Division plans to expand its diphenylmethane diisocyanate plant in Geismar, La., by 50 percent, to give it a total capacity of 240 million pounds annually.
The expansion project is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 1997. Diphenylmethane diisocyanate is a component of polyurethane plastics. BASF Corp. is headquartered in Mount Olive.
New Nicca USA plant to make Bisphenol S
FOUNTAIN INN, S.C.-Nicca USA Inc. is building a plant to manufacture Bisphenol S dihydroxy diphenyl sulfone on a commercial basis. The Fountain Inn plant will begin production of three grades in April.
BPS-NK, a refined grade of Bisphenol 4,4', is used as a raw material in engineering plastics.
Nicca's parent company is Nicca Chemical Co. Ltd. of Japan.
New TRA division offers Permacote
CORTLAND, OHIO-TRA Coatings Application Division, a new unit of TRA Coatings Corp., will offer its Permacote coatings and other nonstick, permanent release agents for use on rotational molds.
The division, based in Cortland, is headed by Jim Sugalski, formerly general manager of Falholt Inc.
Color Technology buys Imperial Color
WESTBORO, MASS. - Color Technology Inc., a Westboro-based manufacturer of specialized additive and color concentrates for thermoplastics, has acquired the San Diego business and assets of Imperial Color Corp.
Terms of the acquisition were undisclosed. However, Imperial Color will retain its headquarters and manufacturing facilities in Elizabeth, N.J. The deal will enable Color Technology to expand its business in the Southwest.
Facilities in San Diego will serve as headquarters for a new division, to be called Color Technology Inc. West, until a new plant is completed by the end of January. The new plant will double the firm's capacity in San Diego to about 30,000 square feet.
A. Schulman devises antitakeover plan
AKRON, OHIO-A. Schulman Inc. has adopted a stockholders rights plan to deter coercive investment takeover tactics. The plan can kick in if any person becomes a beneficial owner of 15 percent or more of the company's common stock.
The Akron-based company is an international compounder.
Phillips authorizes PP resin importers
BARTLESVILLE, OKLA. - Phillips Petroleum Co. has granted polypropylene import licenses to Hoechst AG of Frankfurt, Germany; Borealis A/S of Copenhagen, Denmark; Huls AG of Marl, Germany and Vestolen GmbH of Gelsenkirchen-Buer, Germany.
Phillips Petroleum is based in Bartlesville. Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
