Cookson Group plc boosted its North American swimming pool components business by acquiring Technican Pool Products Ltd. and Pool Technology Distributors, both of Brantford, Ontario. The London-based company added the acquisitions to its Cookson Specialty Molding Group, which includes pool components producer Pacific Industries Inc. of Latham, N.Y.
The Canadian firms had sales of about C$18 million (US$13.1 million) for the year ended Sept. 30, Cookson spokeswoman Linda Mickle said. They employ 70.
Technican makes acrylic/fiberglass composite pool steps and similar parts and fabricates purchased vinyl sheet into pool linings. The business also makes galvanized steel walls for pools.
Pool Technology distributes pool products made by Technican and other suppliers.
Pacific has seven structural foam molding presses in Latham that make polystyrene pool walls and bracing systems, said Mickle. It thermoforms its patented ABS pool steps with molded-in treads and fabricates pool liners from vinyl sheet.
A satellite plant in Lawrenceville, Ga., has two structural foam presses and also makes vinyl liners.
Mickle said Cookson Specialty Molding Group has annual sales of more than US$150 million. Its U.S. subsidiaries include pool product supplier Bicknell/Huston Distributors Inc. of Hopkinton, Mass., and pallet producer Loudon Plastics Inc. of Latham.
Pacific President Bruce Quay said the acquisitions will help it expand its U.S. product line.
