Television assembly plants in Mexico are the source of foamed polystyrene waste used in the Rastra concrete building system, displayed at the Builders' Show in Houston Jan. 26-29. The company that manufactures Rastra products, Environmental Building Technologies of Palm Springs, Calif., obtains its expanded PS packaging from TV plants in Mexico near the Southern California border. The foam is used to package picture tubes shipped to the factories, according to an Environmental Building Technologies spokesman. Rastra units are very lightweight, and can be sawed and worked. After wall units are erected, crews pour concrete into hollow areas inside.
