AKRON, OHIO - Plastics News has beefed up its classified advertising sales department, hiring two new people and promoting another. The following moves all took effect Feb. 5: Edward Rich joined the publication as classified ad sales manager.
Michelle Csaky was promoted to senior sales representative.
Brent Weaver came from another position in Crain Communications Inc.'s Akron office to become a sales representative.
``This expansion of the department is necessary to keep pace with Plastics News' continued fast growth in classified ad sales, which accounted for 318 pages last year - a jump of roughly 25 percent, '' said national sales manager Jeff Williams. ``The addition of Ed's and Brent's skill sets to Michelle's proven sales capabilities makes this a very strong team.''
Rich, 39, brings 20 years of selling and managerial experience to his new post. He joins Crain from Roadway Global Air, where he worked since July 1993 as manager of the air-freight firm's Air Logistic Center, hiring and managing its sales and operations team.
The University of Akron marketing graduate brings some plastics industry experience with him, too, since he sold industrial shrink and stretch film and plastic grocery bags for Mobil Chemical Co. from 1981-86 - first as a sales representative in the Southern Plains states, then as a territory sales manager in the Midwest. In his first professional job, he sold supermarket and industrial plastics for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
More recently, Rich also has served as a branch manager for TNT Express Worldwide and for MCI Telecommunications. He replaces Carolyn Reed-Dickson, who left the company.
Csaky, 29, already is well-known to Plastics News' classified-ad customers, as she has been a sales representative in that department since March 1990. Prior to joining Crain, the Akron native worked as an assistant media buyer for an area public relations firm.
Weaver, 38, joins PN from his position as advertising production manager for two Akron-based, Crain sister publications, Rubber & Plastics News and Tire Business. He assumed that post in May 1995. For the 15 years prior to that, Weaver owned EM Type, an Akron prepress advertising, typesetting and graphics shop.
