ST. LOUIS - Kranson Industries of St. Louis is offering a new line of squeezable plastic bottles that combine crack resistance, pliability and barrier properties. Randy Kotoucek, packaging development director for the packaging research, design and development firm, said the bottles are made with the firm's VelvaSoft material. He said it is the first time the material has been used in a rigid package.
A blend of polypropylene, polyethylenes and elastomers, Velva-Soft offers the potential for tinted colors and frosted texture. It is aimed for the cosmetic and personal-care markets.
``The bottles themselves are extrusion blow molded for us by a contractor,'' Kotoucek said. ``Traditionally, VelvaSoft has been used in film applications and has been used widely in the medical and hazardous materials liner industries.''
The material can be used in coextruded and multilayer constructions with high density and low density PE, or in 100 percent VelvaSoft content.
