Dow Plastics added four low-density products to its Ethafoam expanded polyethylene foam geared to electronic packaging. The new Nova grade has density of 1.2 pounds per cubic foot. Three new Select grades have density of 1.7 pounds per cubic foot and include an antistatic type. The Midland, Mich., company produces the foams in 48-inch widths.

Exxon set up resins for large, small lines
Exxon Chemical Co. says its two new Escorene high-molecular-weight, high density polyethylene film resins allow wide processing windows on conven-tional equipment.
The Houston firm's HD7745 is designed for large extrusion lines and HD7755 is for smaller lines. They are targeted for films from 0.25-mil to 7-mil thick and have exceptional lot-to-lot consistency, according to Exxon.

BASF's stabilizers improve protection
BASF Corp. claims a combination of two hindered amine light stabilizers provides improved protection of ABS resins.
Its Uvinul 4050H and 3035 reduce discoloration, protect against heat aging and extend ABS's resistance to impact when used at levels of 0.5 percent and 0.35 percent, respectively.
The Mount Olive, N.J., firm said applications include auto parts, appliances, business machine housings and toys.

Ampacet Corp. touts amine light stabilizer
Ampacet Corp. blends hindered amine light stabilizers in a concentrate to improve cost-effectiveness for blown film and blow molding and injection molding compounds.
Its 100600 UV PE MB is a 10-percent loaded HALS blend in a low density polyethylene carrier. The blend allows unusually high ultraviolet stabilizer levels in Food and Drug Administration-type applications because each HALS ingredient can be present at near-maximum, FDA-approved levels, claims Tarrytown, N.Y.-based Ampacet.

Cadillac distributes glazing laminate
Cadillac Plastic and Chemical Co. distributes a glazing laminate that can double the life of polycarbonate sheet in some applications.
Lexan Nu-View from GE Plastics has a peel-away PC film surface that can be removed when scratched or vandalized in transit operations. The underlying PC sheet then looks as good as new, according to Cadillac, based in Troy, Mich.

Resin liner resists chloralkali chemical
DuPont Co.'s Tefzel fluoropolymer resin liners resist harsh chloralkali chemicals in 27,000-gallon, fiberglass-reinforced plastic tanks at a Petroquimica de Venezuela SA plant in Venezuela.
Westlake Plastics Co. of Lenni, Pa., extrudes Tefzel into 90-mil sheet that CPF Dualam Inc. of Montreal uses to line FRP tanks it makes. The sheet has an embedded glass fabric to bond to the FRP shell based on epoxy vinyl ester resin. CPF heat-welds the lining seams to create a smooth surface.

Cannon says system offers softer PU foam
Cannon USA Inc. extended its carbon dioxide-based blowing agent technology to include molded foam applications in furniture and auto seating markets.
The Cranberry Township, Pa., firm's CannOxide system includes a mixhead that controls transition of liquid carbon dioxide to its gaseous form. It claims the system can offer softer flexible polyurethane foams through reduced urea content. Demolding times of rigid PU foam can be cut by 20 percent compared to totally water-blown formulations.

Italian firm expands compostable line
Novamont of Milan, Italy, expanded its compostable resins line with a new film grade called Mater-Bi ZF03U/A.
The Montedison Group subsidiary claims the product degrades completely in 45 days in composting conditions for applications such as yard waste collection bags.
It said the material processes like low density polyethylene and contains starch and polylactone.
The Novamont biodegradable resin and compostable film is available in the United States, Canada and Mexico throughENPAC, a joint venture of DuPont Co. and Conagra, in Wilmington, Del.
