NORWALK, CONN. - A series of Parts in Minutes polyurethanes that set in less than two minutes and produce prototypes that simulate the performance of thermoplastics has been introduced by Ciba-Geigy Corp.'s Formulated Materials Group in East Lansing, Mich. The new PUs for rapid prototyping are low-viscosity systems designed for use with automated dispensing equipment and low-cost tooling. With their extremely fast gel times, the materials permit demolding of durable parts in less than 10 minutes.
The diverse performance characteristics of the PUs allow prototypers to choose a system that closely resembles the thermoplastic being used for an end-product. Ciba is in Norwalk.
