BLACKBURN, ENGLAND-PolyGram NV, a Dutch entertainment group, has agreed in principle to buy the PDO compact disc plant in Black-burn from Philips Electronics NV. Philips, also of the Nether-lands, holds a 75 percent stake in PolyGram. PolyGram did not re-lease the deal's financial details.
The plant is one of the largest of its kind in the United Kingdom, said PolyGram. The plant, to be renamed PolyGram Manufactur-ing and Distribution Centres Ltd., employs about 300 and makes about 60 million CDs, CD-ROMs and interactive CDs a year; about half are PolyGram releases for the United Kingdom market.
A company spokeswoman would not provide details about the plant's injection molding machines. PMDC Ltd. will be integrated into PolyGram's international manufacturing and distribution division under Ian Cook, executive vice president and chief financial officer.
