WINCHESTER, VA. - Mobil Chem-ical Co. moved its Composite Products Division headquarters from Norwalk, Conn., to Win-chester on Jan. 1. Composite Products manufactures and sells Trex-brand plastic lumber, a decking material made from reclaimed plastic and waste wood.
``We've made a major investment in our manufacturing operations in Winchester over the past three years, so it made sense to centralize operations here,'' said Bob Matheny, general manager of Composite Products Division.
Trex is extruded from sawdust and polyethylene at the Win-chester plant. The plant has 110 employees.
Trex is used in residential and commercial decks, docks, playgrounds, landscaping, nature trails, boardwalks, benches and signs. Recently, it was used for Toronto's Lake Ontario boardwalk and for the Presidential Trail at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.
