ATLANTA - Boehringer Ingel-heim Chemicals Inc. has purchased the Activex CBA product line of blowing and molding agents from J.M. Huber Corp. BI Chemicals Corp., the Montvale, N.J.-based North Amer-ican wing of Boehringer Ingel-heim, said the purchase will give the company its first actual production capabilities on the continent. BI made the announcement at the recent Society of the Plastics Industry Inc.'s Structural Plastics Division conference, held in Atlanta.
Dennis Keane, manager of specialty products for BI, said equipment and product lines for the 10 Activex blowing and nucleating agent products would be used in BI's 30,000-square-foot plant under construction in Win-chester, Va.
That facility is due to be completed later this year.
``This was a perfect opportunity for us,'' Keane said. ``For years we have been bringing our powders and pellets in from Europe, and this will give us an already- established product line in this country.''
BI also is introducing three chemical blowing agent grades for foaming rigid PVC.
Exocerol 232, AO 38 and LAB 010 are targeted at producing good cell structure and density reduction, at low processing temperatures.
``These products will allow processors reduced resin usage, better physical properties, and reduction of sink marks,'' Keane said.
He said BI also will make the new products at the Winchester facility.
