HICKSVILLE, N.Y. - Uniflex Inc., a manufacturer of customized plastic packaging, has created a subsidiary called SafeLink Corp. to market products for the dental industry. SafeLink's distribution center and marketing office is in Roswell, Ga. The unit, launched in March, has eight employees.
The dental industry is ``a largely untapped market in which infection control is important,'' said Uniflex President Robert Semel.
One of the products SafeLink makes is a bag to transport dental impressions from the dentist to the lab. SafeLink boasts that these patented safety bags are liquid-tight and prevent cross-contamination. Semel added that they exceed the government safety requirements.
Uniflex recently announced it had record sales and earnings for the year ended Jan. 31. Profit was $1.46 million, up 25 percent, and sales were $31.5 million, up 4.6 percent. The results included costs associated with the April 1995 startup of Cycle Plastics in Albu-querque, which manufactures double-draw string bags, a reclosable bag with a zipper closure and a bag featuring a soft, loop handle.
Uniflex, headquartered in Hicksville, also designs, manufactures and markets specialty bags for sales and advertising promotions, as well as patented products used in hospitals, medical laboratories and emergency centers.
