Continental Plastic Containers, a subsidiary of Continental Can Co. Inc., has completed a $2 million expansion at one of its manufacturing plants in Elk Grove, Ill. The 47,200-square-foot expansion was completed March 20 and about 15 employees were added. The company now has a total of 250,000 square feet in its four buildings in Elk Grove. Some 177,200 square feet of that is used for manufacturing.
``Machinery was added prior to the expansion,'' said spokesman George Oberg.
``That used up the warehouse space. So we're using the expansion to store raw materials. It makes more sense to put the new equipment next to the old equipment and use the expansion area for warehouse space.''
Oberg said about a year and a half ago the company started to add machinery, and the little room that was left, including the aisles, was used for raw material storage.
CPC extrusion blow molds bottles for the detergent, health and beauty, motor oil and industrial and household chemical industries. The bottles are made from high density polyethylene, polypropylene and occasionally PET.
