ESCONDIDO, CALIF. - Fiber-Tech Engineering Inc., a custom composites manufacturer, recently moved to a new, 25,000-square-foot facility in Escondido. The building is leased with an option to purchase at a later date. The firm also added two filament winders, custom designed to FTE's specifications. FTE has capabilities to do both chop-hoop and helical winding, said Le Rodenberg, vice president of operations. He declined to comment on the cost of the move and equipment.
FTE builds ducting as large as 1 foot in diameter for toxic and acid fumes, and large container tanks for acids and caustic materials.
Rodenberg said he was surprised how smoothly the move went. Escondido has a small-business assistance program that helps companies with the process for obtaining air-quality and other permits.
``The city seems to have developed a more business-friendly attitude,'' Rodenberg said. ``Not more lenient, but they've streamlined the process to make it less burdensome on the business owner.''
Rodenberg said the move will allow FTE to increase capacity as business grows.
