MARION, IND. - About a month ago, Tulox Plastics Corp., a Marion-based extruder, began constructing a 20,000-square-foot plant in Ider, Ala. Manufacturing will begin there in late July. ``This will get us closer to the Southeast marketplace,'' said President John Sciaudone. ``It will reduce the shipping costs for our customers while increasing business.''
Just more than $1 million has been invested in the project, Sciaudone said. The plant, about 40 miles south of Chattanooga, Tenn., will have three extrusion lines. The firm employs 42 at the plant.
Sciaudone said the plant will serve a variety of industries, including packaging and plastic containers for the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and other markets. The parts are made from PVC and cellulose propanate.
Tulox has plants in Marion and Phoenix, and employs 133. It also serves medical, industrial and writing instruments markets with parts made from PVC, ABS, polystyrene and polyphenylene oxide. Tulox reported sales of $9.5 million for the year ended Dec. 31.
