SAN JOSE, CALIF. - Shape Global Technology Inc. of Biddeford, Maine, has acquired the Tandy-Rank videocassette shell manufacturing operations in North-brook, Ill. Tandy-Rank is a division of Rank Video Services America. The two companies also announced a new nonexclusive, three-year supply agreement for Shape to supply Rank with videocassette shells.
Rank Video Services America, headquartered in Northbrook, Ill., provides duplication, packaging and distribution services to the video industry. Rank President David Cuyler said that while videocassette shell manufacturing is a ``critically important part of the production process,'' those operations do not fit with the company's long-term business strategy.
``This is an area that is best left to a quality focused specialist like Shape,'' Cuyler said at Replitech International 1996 in San Jose.
Tom Parkinson, Shape's president and chief executive officer, said the acquisition makes Shape the largest manufacturer of videocassette shells in North America, with an annual production capacity of 200 million video cassette shells.
This marks the second acquisition for Shape within a month. On May 22, Shape announced the purchase of Optima Precision Inc. from Netstal Machinery Inc. in Fitchburg, Mass.
