MIDLAND, MICH. - Dow Chemical Co. rescinded its polycarbonate sales control program June 1, providing another indication that PC is becoming more available. Dow put the controls into effect in May 1995, saying it expected to drop the program by that Decem-ber, but extended it under sustained strong demand.
``For the past 12-14 months, polycarbonate was in tight supply globally,'' Jon Piper, PC product manager, said June 5. ``Now we are in a more-balanced position. We are not in a long position, but the pendulum has swung'' away from tight supplies.
Dow, Bayer Corp. and GE Plas-tics all increased PC capacity in the past year; further expansions are planned.
Buyers said GE is citing delivery times of four to six weeks. A year ago, GE promised delivery in 24-30 weeks.
