FREEPORT, ILL. - A decision whether to establish a U.S. injection molding press manufacturing base remains under study at German machine maker Batten-feld GmbH, a top U.S. Battenfeld official said. Echoing comments made earlier by Battenfeld officials, Wolf-gang Meyer, president of Batten-feld of America Inc., said the company wants to diversify the manufacturing of injection molding machines beyond Europe.
Currently, the company builds injection presses in Germany and ships them to Battenfeld of America in West Warwick, R.I., for delivery throughout North Amer-ica.
``Battenfeld is seriously considering the entry into U.S. manufacturing, and we hope there is a decision made in the next 12 months,'' Meyer said.
Meyer made the comments during a June 14 press briefing in Freeport, at the Micro Switch Division of Honeywell Inc. Battenfeld supplies molding machines to Micro Switch.
