Nylon's impact strength and resistance to oil and grease suits it to the rigors of the Thunderbolt rotary hammer for breaking up concrete. The 17.5-pound hammer can survive drop tests from 6 feet. DuPont Engineering Polymers supplies Zytel resin for the hammer's seven housing parts and 33-percent glass-reinforced Zytel for the hammer's cord clamp.
Milwaukee Electric Tool Corp. of Brookfield, Wis., chose Zytel over die cast metal and avoided finishing and painting costs. Custom injection molders for the parts are Juno Plastics of Ply-mouth, Minn., and Dickton & Marsh of Delafield, Wis.

HVAC designers make actuator with Celcon
Acetal gears cut noise and do not need lubricating in a louvre actuator for heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment. The actuator does not need an oil-immersed gear train and is quiet enough to install in a dropped ceiling.
Hoechst Celanese Corp. of Summit, N.J., supplies Celcon acetal for this application. It did not disclose the parts molder or equipment supplier.

DTM Corp. enhances Sinterstation system
DTM Corp. of Austin, Texas, introduced its Sinterstation 2500 system for rapid prototype production of large parts.
The system, which is expected to be available later this year, features an enhanced laser beam subsystem that DTM said im-proves the speed and accuracy with which parts are produced.
The 2500 has a rectangular chamber, measuring 13 inches by 15 inches by 16.7 inches, more than double the size of DTM's existing Sinterstation 2000 system. The company said the chamber is large enough to accommodate prototype production of a laptop computer housing.
DTM is hopeful the 2500 system will win acceptance with, for example, automotive and aerospace companies.

Comet unit regrinds, meters at feedthroat
Comet Automation Systems Inc. of Dayton, Ohio, has developed the Color Exact Metering Unit, a screw-type feeder de-signed for metering color concentrate and regrind at the feed throat of an injection molding machine or extruder.
The auger and sleeve are made of stainless steel. Metering screws and sleeves can be changed easily. Auger units can be easily mounted and fastened to the casting with two quick-disconnect clips.
Also new from Comet is an HL-2 Vacuum Hopper Loader, with a stainless-steel vacuum chamber and 825 square inches of cloth filter area. An air-pulse operation cleans the filter.

Le Profil mainfold reduces weight 60%
Le Profil Industries has introduced to the North American market its newest welded air intake manifold, a product the automotive supplier said achieves weight reductions of 60 percent and large cost savings.
The glass-filled nylon manifolds are molded in two halves and vibration welded, allowing for close tolerances of wall thicknesses. The company said its welded manifolds offer advantages over similar products made with the lost-core process, including lower piece costs, faster prototyping and production launch.
Le Profil, with a North American sales office in Birmingham, Mich., is a unit of French-owned Aries Group, a diversified parts supplier with facilities in France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. Le Profil said it is a supplier to major OEMs in Europe.

TNY series offered in compact size
AEC Inc. of Wood Dale, Ill., exhibited its new TNY series water temperature controller at Plastics Fair Chicago, June 11-13, in Rosemont, Ill.
The compact unit is designed for under-the-press installation, according to AEC, requiring less than 2 square feet of floor space.
The TNY series offers a high-temperature thermostat with safety cutoff. Options include a 4 kilowatt heater, a heat exchanger, nonferrous construction, to-process pressure gauges and casters. The units feature a water supply low-pressure safety switch and a manual vent sequence.
AEC also offers a new ``level 2'' control option on its WDMR minidryers, employing fuzzy logic on a range of drying applications.
The enhanced controls feature a fuzzy logic temperature controller and a dual set-point temperature shift.
The minidryers are designed to process from 5-70 pounds an hour, AEC said.
