BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA - Trigon Packaging Systems (Australia) Pty. Ltd. has formed a flexible packaging joint venture with Chicago-based Viskase Corp. The new firm, Trigon-Vis-kase Pty. Ltd., will be based in Brisbane and supply extruded polyethylene film to the Aus-tralian food industry. The venture will use Trigon's existing domestic facilities in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
Trigon Packaging Systems is part of Trigon Industries Ltd. of Hamilton, New Zealand, which manufactures plastic packaging and envelopes, and has annual sales of NZ$130 million (US$88.8 million).
Trigon Industries is owned by Sealed Air Corp. of Saddle Brook, N.J. Trigon has facilities in New Zealand, North Amer-ica, and the United Kingdom, and opened a major plastic envelope plant in Atlanta in 1994.
Dick Adams, Trigon-Viskase managing director, said the new venture replaces Trigon Packaging Systems (Australia), of which he was managing director.
The pact gives the partners an increased presence in the Australian market, Adams said. Viskase is an international packaging company, but had only limited distribution in Australia.
Adams said no initial capital was required to consolidate the two operations in Aus-tralia, but some investment may be needed later.
The new firm will market Trigon and Viskase brands and eventually may introduce new food packaging products and technologies to Australia, Adams said.
Trigon-Viskase imports film from Trigon in New Zealand and Viskase in Chicago. The films are converted in Aus-tralia. Viskase is a unit of Envirodyne Industries Inc. of Oak Brook, Ill.
