AKRON, OHIO - BFGoodrich Co. acquired sheet extruder and specialty compounder Mitech Corp. of Twinsburg, Ohio, June 27. Officials would not disclose the terms of the transaction. Mitech will become part of Akron-based BFGoodrich's Specialty Plastics Group, which supplies proprietary anti-static additives and compounds under the Stat-Rite brand name.
Stat-Rite glycol-modified PET alloy and impact-modified acrylic can be extruded into sheet and also is used in injection molding applications. Anti-static packaging and materials-handling products are used in clean room manufacturing and electronic component environments.
BFGoodrich will use Mitech's 30,000-square-foot plant in Twinsburg but, as a wholly owned subsidiary, Mitech's name will change. The official name has not yet been decided, said BFGoodrich business manager Tim Fahey.
Mitech had sales of $5.1 million last year. The firm was ranked 172nd in Plastics News' film and sheet manufacturers survey, with sales of $2.5 million.
The remainder of its business is in compounding.
Since April, BFGoodrich has acquired four specialty chemical businesses in addition to Mitech - Albus SA, Zinchem, Key Polymer and Algan Inc. BFGoodrich had sales of $2.4 billion last year.
