VALLEY FORGE, PA. - CertainTeed Corp. boosted its northwestern vinyl building products business again by purchasing B&K Window Manufacturing Inc. of Woodin-ville, Wash., on Aug. 1 for undisclosed terms. B&K has been a licensed CertainTeed window fabricator for several years, buying vinyl profiles from CertainTeed, said Bill Wade, who with his wife Kitty Wade had owned the firm. He did not disclose terms of the deal.
Valley Forge-based Certain-Teed formed a joint venture in April with Insulate Industries Inc. of Auburn, Wash., to make vinyl window and door products at Insulate's extrusion and fabrication operation in Auburn. The Insulate LLC 50/50 joint venture represented CertainTeed's entry into vinyl window production.
``Adding B&K to our company strengthens CertainTeed's ability to grow in the replacement window market here,'' said Larry Patterson, vice president and general manager of CertainTeed's window business, in a release.
Wade said he founded B&K in 1978 as an aluminum window producer and started making vinyl windows in 1989. It does not extrude its own profiles. He and his wife sold B&K to retire, but he will act as a part-time consultant for six months. Wade did not disclose B&K's size.
