WESTBORO, MASS. - Color Technology Inc. has acquired the West Coast business operation and assets of Imperial Color Corp. of Elizabeth, N.J., and has built a 20,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Chula Vista, Calif. Color Technology of Westboro is a privately held, 21-year-old maker of specialized additive and color concentrates for polyolefins and styrenic and PVC resins for packaging, personal-care, consumer products and specialty sheet products. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
Color Technology West was to begin production Aug. 23 in Chula Vista. Imperial Color will retain its headquarters and manufacturing facilities in New Jersey.
The Chula Vista plant will have 10 employees and three production lines to make 5 million pounds of additive and color concentrates a year, Wayne Prescott, vice president for sales and marketing, said in an Aug. 14 interview in Westboro. Until the addition of the facility in Chula Vista, Westboro was the company's only facility.
Steve Kaufman, founder and president of the company, said the expansion will help his company expand in markets for electronics, consumer goods and medical devices.
Prescott said the acquisition and expansion are the first stages of growth planned for the $12 million company.
Color Technology is establishing a design center at its Marlboro facility and later will do the same in Chula Vista, Prescott said.
``The design centers will provide facilities for cosmetic and personal-care product makers to work out packaging designs and colors that are consistent with their costs and product lines,'' Prescott said.
