DETROIT - The Society of Plastics Engineers Automotive Division has set a Sept. 16 nominations deadline for its annual ``most innovative use of plastics'' awards. The awards program, scheduled Nov. 7 at the Westin Hotel in Detroit, recognizes original equipment manufacturers that have advanced the state of plastics in the areas of design, engineering, manufacturing, assembly, parts integration and weight and cost reduction.
Last year, nearly 100 entries were submitted, spokesman Jay Braboy said.
``The SPE Automotive Division awards is the largest competition of its kind in the world and honors automotive engineers for innovative uses of lightweight plastics and components,'' said Braboy.
