SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Robert R. Thomas, 59, development and technical manager for the Spartanburg-based PET Packaging Resins Business Unit of Hoechst Celanese Corp., died June 17. He had cancer. Thomas was a major contributor to Hoechst's development of PET resin for rigid packaging. He had worked at the firm since 1971.
Thomas was a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers, the American Chemical Society and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.
