TORONTO - The Society of the Plastics Industry of Canada announced its annual awards winners June 11 in Toronto. The dinner included a silent auction to support the Prostate Cancer Research fund, an initiative begun by Ron Evason, who died from the disease.
John Zacharias got the Industry Leader of the Year award. He is president of extruded expanded polystyrene firm Celfortec Inc. of Valleyfield, Quebec.
SPI Canada gave Canplast awards to Veso Sobot, marketing and product development manager for extruder Ipex Inc. of Montreal; Paul Cohen, vice president of extruder W. Ralston (Canada) Inc. in Brampton, Ontario; Dan Sabourin, president of vacuum former ASI Plastics unit of Acryfab Specialties Inc. of Coquitlam, British Columbia; and David Climenhage, environmental affairs manager for DuPont Can-ada Inc. of Mississauga, Ontario.
Lifetime Achievement awards went to Ralph Noble, chairman and chief executive officer of Mississauga, Ontario, compound-er Synergistics Industries Ltd.; and Sam Bern, president of Montreal-based injection molder and extruder Bow Plastics Ltd.
