Alcoa Inc.'s Cast Plate Division has a new cast aluminum plate that allows weld modifications in molds. Alca Max has minimal plate porosity, making it resistant to post-weld cracking, the Los Angeles division claims.
It also maintains flatness tolerance to 0.005 inch after sawing. It is suited to injection, blow and compression molding applications.

GLS Corp. introduced a soft, high-clarity thermoplastic elastomer for medical tubing, clear grips and handles and flexible lenses.
The Cary, Ill., firm's Dynaflex G-2735 has 35 Shore A hardness. GLS claims it has better light transmittance and lower haze characteristics than standard soft, clarity-grade TPEs.
Like other G-2700 TPEs, the product can be radiation sterilized with little color shift or loss of properties.

Cadillac Plastic offers a new rigid polyurethane plug-assist material for deep-draw and other difficult thermoforming operations.
It touts Formplast 2000 as a tough alternative to syntactic foam, wood and aluminum plug assists.
Its low thermal conductivity eliminates the need for plug heating, thus saving on operating costs, the Troy, Mich., distributor claims.
It is available in rod and plate forms.

DeWal Industries Inc. claims uniform z-axis pore size for its new ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene film. A spokesman said the product can be folded and creased because it is not brittle like most porous UHMWPE films.
The Saunderstown, R.I., company said D/W 402FP is suited to filtration, medical diagnostics and as a diffusion membrane. Untreated, it will readily bind oils. DeWal also offers it in a hydrophilic form so that it can wick aqueous solutions.
The film is supplied with mean pore size of 4.5 microns and 7 microns in thicknesses of 0.003 inch to 0.05 inch. DeWal makes it in a proprietary skiving process in which it peels the film off in layers from a porous cylinder.
