NEWINGTON, CONN. - Andrew Lord, the new executive vice president and general manager of small-tonnage injection press maker Arburg Inc. in Newington, comes from the machine tool industry. Lord, 45, succeeds Law-rence Bauer, who retired at the end of 1995. Lord spent 11 years at Okuma Machinery Inc. of Nagoya, Japan. Most recently, he was vice president of Okuma's U.S. strategic business unit in Charlotte, N.C.
Arburg Inc. is the North American unit of Arburg Maschinenfabrik of Lossburg, Germany.
Lord said he wants to boost Arburg's business in North America.
``I have a good feeling about how to manage a growing company,'' Lord said in an interview in Newington Aug. 6. Okuma's U.S. unit grew from a $30 million business when he joined in 1984 to sales of about $300 million today.
In June, at Plastics Fair Chicago, Arburg marked the North American debut of its modular S series machine. The 28-ton S press was bought by IKU U.S.A. of Three Rivers, Mich., which molds gears and other parts for actuators for electric mirrors in cars.
