Custom injection molder Accutech Plastics Inc. has invested $900,000 to build a Class 100,000 clean room at its Marlborough, Mass., headquarters plant. Because ``we've seen growth in the medical field and the trend seems to be toward the medical industry, we wanted to take the initial step which we feel others in this area have not done,'' said sales manager Linda Braunhardt.
The 30,000-square-foot plant has 55 employees and 16 presses with clamping forces of 55-309 tons. Six presses are in the clean room, which was done in June.
Accutech reported sales of $5.3 million last year, with 40 percent in the medical industry.
``We'd like to see that number up around 50 percent,'' Braunhardt said. The firm expects to have 1996 sales of $6.5 million.
Accutech also serves the auto, electronic, computer, packaging and office and consumer products industries. The firm plans to expand operations to seven days a week and add two to three presses in the clean room. Eventually, Accutech would like to open a plant in the South, she said.
