Birmingham, England-based Delcam International plc released its Duct5.4 software for the design and manufacturing of molded plastic parts. The software uses parametric wireframe, surface and solid modeling tools.
If the user moves any point within a surface, the software reshapes the surface, giving a designer greater freedom to develop complex parts. The software also does a range of standard tasks automatically, including trimming, offsetting, blending and filleting of surfaces, and calculation of area, volume and mass.
Duct5.4 also shades the model in a range of colors, from blue for flat surfaces to red for highly curved ones.

Comet Automation Systems Inc. of Dayton, Ohio, has developed a new desiccant dryer and a vacuum receiver.
The CDD desiccant dryer boasts a closed-loop system. Moisture-laden air passes through a flexible hose leaving the hopper and enters a two-stage filter, which eliminates any dust or fines. The clean air then goes to a desiccant tower for drying.
Comet's CL-JIT vacuum receiver is designed for injection molding applications that require just a small amount of hot, dry resin at the feedthroat. It conveys as much as 50 pounds an hour.

Conair Jetro/Gatto has introduced the Model FX10 Filmaxx densifier pelletizer for cutting film scrap or edge into uniform chips.
The chips retain nearly all the bulk density of the virgin resin without an added heat history.
The pelletizer pulls the material under an automatic film tension compensator, which varies its cutting speed according to the film feed rate. Next, the film goes through gathering rolls, where it is folded. Strips of film, with several layers, are formed using spring-loaded wedge blocks. Crimping feed rolls pull the film toward the cutting chamber. A milling-type rotor cuts it into chips.
Bay City, Mich.-based Jetro/Gatto also introduced:
Easy-to-clean T2000 Series strand pelletizers.
The Slide Series of quick-change pelletizers.
Two vacuum sizing tank models. The Series 2000 High Technology (HT) vacuum sizing tank is designed for small-diameter tubing. Another tank, the HT 105, extends the capability of the 41/2-inch diameter.
An upgraded Series 1000 Puller, now with servo drive.
