Colliersville, Tenn.-Alpha/Owens Corning of Colliersville has canceled a 2-3 cent-per-pound price increase for unsaturated polyester resin that was to have taken effect Nov. 1. ''The market just isn't ready to accept [the increase] at this time, but we still have to deal with raw material costs,'' AOC business manager Reagan Stephens said Nov. 13.
An executive at another UP supplier confirmed a softening of prices and said he industry will not get price hikes through.
UP resin producers cited rising raw materials prices as the main reason for the intended increases. Reichhold Chemicals Inc. of Research Triangle, N.C., Ashland Chemical Co. of Dublein, Ohio, an Cook Composites and Polymers of Kansas City, Mo., all had announced increases of 2-3 cents per pound.
