BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND - U.S. film extruder AMI/RecPro Inc. has signed a $1 million joint venture deal with British converting equipment agent Filmflex Machinery Ltd. to market the American Pro Seal reclosable bag zipper technology in Europe. On the strength of the deal, Atlanta-based AMI/RecPro will build a new $300,000 zipper extrusion line to sell directly into Europe through the new venture.
Filmflex, of Barnsley, England, unveiled the joint venture plans at Interplas '96 in Birmingham.
The new venture, likely to be called Pro Seal Ltd., will go into business in January. It will market the U.S. zippers and zipper attachments for wicket and form-fill-seal bag packaging machines.
The joint venture will add conversion and bag lines with zipper attachments for demonstration purposes at Filmflex's plant at Barnsley. AMI/RecPro vice president Howie Johnson was at Interplas '96 to promote the zipper technology. He emphasized the low cost of the zipper and that the machine zipper attachments run as fast as the bag machines.
