Three former executives of General Electric Co. have created an Internet site they hope will provide answers for manufacturing questions. Chris Golec, Dave Mendez and Ron Domingue have established DeveloPages LLC.
The company's World Wide Web site provides information on companies that could help design, produce or finance a new product.
More than 12,000 companies are listed in 42 industrial segments and five categories: business services, design, materials and components, manufacturing, and sales and distribution. However, detailed profiles are provided for only 130 firms. DeveloPages sells the profiles, and offers the service free.
The site was activated Oct. 28, and more firms are being profiled.
In a telephone interview from their headquarters in San Francisco, the three said they try to offer a full directory of manufacturing services.
``If you are a manufacturer, and you have a new product you want to make, you might not consider making it out of plastic or metal because you're not familiar with that industry,'' according to Domingue.
The listing under manufacturing includes categories for metal stamping, injection molding and a variety of other companies.
``This is a new business-generation tool that targets a company's services to a wide original equipment manufacturing base,'' Domingue said.
The Web site allows users to search based on a target firm's manufacturing capabilities, location of production facilities, and other criteria.
DeveloPages will transmit business leads to the suppliers it has profiled on the Web site by e-mail or fax, or through a hot link directly to the supplier's own Web site, Golec said.
Customers will be able to update their capabilities profile regularly, he said.
DeveloPages' Web site address is http://www.developages.com.
