WEST MIFFLIN, PA. — Liberty Polyglas, a $5 million pultruder in West Mifflin, will become part of the Resolite Division of United Dominion Industries Ltd. in a deal announced Nov. 21. Resolite makes corrugated, glass-fiber-reinforced panels in Zelienople, Pa.
United Dominion will continue to run both western Pennsylvania factories, said Robert Shaffer, Dominion's vice president of communications.
``Our focus here is on growth, not consolidation,'' Shaffer said.
The deal is expected to close in early 1997. Terms were not disclosed.
Polyglas generates about $5 million in annual sales by pultruding components for electrical and structural-products industries. Polyglas also makes several proprietary products, including parts for nuclear shielding, according to United Dominion. About 40 people work at Polyglas.
Based in Charlotte, publicly held Dominion is a diversified manufacturer of engineered products with more than 11,000 employees at 65 facilities in 16 countries. Shaffer said Dominion can help Polyglas get into new markets for its pultruded products. For example, one Dominion unit makes cooling tanks that use pultruded parts, he said.
Building products are another new market for Polyglas, already served by Resolite with its corrugated panels. Building products account for about one-third of Dominion's business. Shaffer said industrial products account for the remaining two- thirds of the company's business.
