TEMPE, ARIZ. — Fiberite Inc. has developed a lightweight unsupported cyanate film adhesive as an alternative to an epoxy for space applications. Fiberite A54 adhesive complements Fiberite's existing products and is part of its 954 family of cyanate ester resins, said Tom Triplett, senior technical service engineer for the firm's Tempe products group.
A54 meets requirements for low outgassing and low moisture gain. The adhesive can be co-cured with cyanate prepreg skins to core or laminate space structures and used for secondary bonding when the properties of cyanate resin are needed. Service temperature is 325§ F.
Fiberite makes continuous fiber thermoset and thermoplastic advanced composite materials and thermoset chopped-fiber molding compounds.
