Tech Group continues its international expansion with new processing plants in Ireland and Turkey. The company also is expanding operations in Singapore, Puerto Rico and Phoenix.
The Scottsdale, Ariz., firm bought 5 acres of land just northwest of Dublin, Ireland. Construction of the injection molding facility is scheduled to begin May 1, with manufacturing scheduled to start in March 1998.
Tech Group's blow molding unit, Star Container Corp., will open a plant in Manisa, Turkey, by July 1. Plans call for Tech Group Turkey to become an extension of Star Container, manufacturing bottles and containers for the food industry.
In other news, Star Container started its move into a new, 104,000-square-foot facility in Phoenix. The new building gives the injection blow molding company 40,000 square feet more than its previous location. The larger plant provides warehouse space for finished goods, which the company was storing off-site. The move is scheduled to be complete in March.
A 21,000-square-foot expansion at Tech Group Puerto Rico also means increased warehouse space, which allows the firm to convert current warehouse space into badly needed manufacturing space. Tech Group Puerto Rico plans to increase the capacity from its present 26 machines to 38 injection presses.
In the Pacific Rim, Tech Group announced that it bought out a joint venture with Omni Mold of Singapore to create Tech Group Singapore Ind. Pte Ltd. The former joint venture operation will be refurbished, and will house 14 injection molding presses and a precision mold shop.
The building's second story will house a Class 100,000 clean room area with an additional 18 presses. The company projects first-year sales of more than $6 million for that facility.
Tech Group operates 14 facilities worldwide and had sales of $120 million for the fiscal year ended in June. The company was 32nd in Plastics News' 1996 ranking of North American injection molders, and 60th among blow molders.
