SACRAMENTO, CALIF. — Challenge grants from the American Plastics Council and Universal Studios helped the California Coastal Commission in a campaign to launch an environmental state license plate illustrating a whale's tail.
The plate will generate funds for coastal protection, restoration and enhancement programs.
The first 1,200 who placed orders and mentioned the challenge received a $25 discount. APC of Washington donated $25,000, and the studio in Universal City, Calif., $5,000. Discounts ran out Dec. 30, said Christiane Parry, public education director with the Sacramento commission.
