GARDENA, CALIF. — Custom injection molder AB Plastics Corp. in Gardena broke ground last week on a new facility in Tijuana, Mexico, said Michael A. Gibbs, AB's chief executive officer.
The 90,000-square-foot plant will be expandable by another 60,000 square feet as business dictates, and initially will house presses with clamping forces of 1,450, 1,000 and 850 tons, and two presses with 610 tons of clamping force.
AB Pl sticos, as the Tijuana facility is named, also will house full decorating and assembly capabilities. It primarily will serve AB's customers that have plants in Mexico. The plant is scheduled to be operational by August.
AB Plastics now operates 27 presses with clamping forces of 60-1,800 tons in Gardena. The company molds TV housings, consumer electronics enclosures and computer monitors.
