Flotool Plastics Corp. showed the new design of its Snapware PET dry food storage containers, called the Premier Series.
Flotool blow molds the containers, which now come in a rectangular shape with new angled, recessed handles for easier serving. The Tustin, Calif., company also injection molds the polypropylene lids, which are gasketed for a tight fit.
Flotool has carved a niche in premium dry storage because Snapware products have very thick walls, according to Jim Hughes, president and general manager of Flotool's Household Products Division. Hughes said the company injection molds preforms, which it then blow molds. The firm has trademarked its thick PET Shatterproof Flexiglass.
The new Snapware Stackables Series has a lid with a molded lip for easy stacking.
Hughes, interviewed at Flotool's booth, said the firm started out molding automotive aftermarket products. When President John Lown designed a snap lid for plastic soft drink bottles, he became interested in PET food storage.
At the show, Hughes was pitching the SuperSwat as the ``Cadillac of fly swatters.'' It comes with a detachable dustpan to sweep up the dead fly. For tight spots, a pair of tweezers is attached.
