DETROIT — In an effort to expand its presence in the automotive industry, Eastman Chemical Co. has developed three new polyester product lines.
The leading supplier of PET for packaging applications, Eastman of Kingsport, Tenn., has had a limited presence as a supplier of polyester engineering grades. But, Pierre Muri, business market manager for electrical/electronics and automotive markets, said he intends to change that. Muri spoke in an interview at the Society of Automotive Engineers International Congress and Exposition in Detroit
Eastman introduced:
A family of glass-reinforced PET polymers targeted at injection molded structural components.
A family of glass-reinforced polycyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate polymers and a liquid crystal polymer.
PCT and liquid crystal polymer offer higher heat-deflection temperatures than PET, and target high-productivity, fast-cycle injection molding where precision and low flash are desired.
