ASHLAND, OHIO — Ashland-based rotational molder Hedstrom Corp. has expanded its line of rocking horses by purchasing molds from Rotocast International Inc. of Miami.
Hedstrom already is a major rotomolder of rocking horses, according to James Braeunig, vice president of operations at Hedstrom's Plastics Division.
The firm purchased molds for Rotocast's Wonder Horse line, including the Clip-Clop horse, which makes the sound of horse hooves when it is rocked.
Terms were undisclosed. Hedstrom, also a major molder of play balls, is the third-largest rotomolder in North America with 1996 sales of $42.8 million, according to Plastics News' data.
The rocking horse was one of the first large-volume plastic rotomolded toys.
``Wonder Horse was really the innovator in that product line early on, and has good name recognition,'' Braeunig said.
