SµO PAULO, BRAZIL—Growth in automotive compounding prompted Branco Industria e Comercia Ltda. to buy one of Werner & Pfleiderer's high-output ZSK Mega compounding extruders, with a screw diameter of 70 millimeters.
The extruder will be delivered to the SÃo Paulo compounding company in April, according to Luis Henriques, Branco's research and development manager. Henriques, in an interview at Branco's Brasilplast booth, said this is the company's first high-output machine.
``Automotive is really growing and this is the reason we bought this Werner & Pfleiderer,'' he said.
The machine also gives a good dispersion of materials, he said.
Automotive suppliers have to match material and parts from around the world, and that means they must buy world-class machines, Henriques said.
``We cannot do miracles. We need to have a similar operation as the European market and the U.S. market.''
Branco claims to be the main supplier of paintable thermoplastic olefins to General Motors Corp. and Volkswagen AG.
Branco, which has about $75 million in sales from compounding and making color concentrates, also supplies nonautomotive markets, including packaging, toys and consumer products. The firm also does toll compounding for resin makers.
